Terms of Service

Effective Date: May 11, 2025

Welcome to Code Index MCP (the "Service"), a high-performance indexing and full-text search system designed to support AI coding agents and tools via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). By accessing or using the Service—including authenticating via GitHub—you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Purpose of the Service

Code Index MCP provides a scalable, low-latency search interface over deeply structured and indexed developer knowledge, including:

  • Official documentation from major open source libraries and frameworks
  • Curated code snippets demonstrating idiomatic and real-world usage
  • Best-practice architecture patterns and design blueprints
  • API references, usage examples, and dependency graphs
  • Contextual metadata and tags to improve semantic and structural retrieval

The Service is designed for machine-to-machine consumption, enhancing AI-assisted development by reducing hallucinations, misinterpretation, and redundant lookups. Code Index MCP itself does not generate code or act as an AI assistant.

2. Use of the Service

You may use the Service only in accordance with these Terms and all applicable laws.

  • Integration is intended via the MCP protocol or compatible methods.
  • You are responsible for how any agent or tool you operate uses returned data.
  • Use must not violate intellectual property, privacy, or security rights.

3. Account & Authentication

Authentication is handled via GitHub OAuth. We store your GitHub ID and public profile data for identification purposes. We do not access private repositories or act on your behalf.

You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password, and you accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account. If you believe that your account is no longer secure, contact us immediately at hi@cidx.dev.

4. Content Licensing and Contributions

Indexed content may originate from public documentation or user contributions.

By contributing any data (e.g. index files, tags, patterns), you grant Code Index MCP a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, and distribute it within the Service.

Do not contribute proprietary, infringing, illegal, or inappropriate material.

5. Agent & AI Responsibility Disclaimer

Code Index MCP is not responsible for how third-party agents or tools use indexed data. You acknowledge that LLMs or coding agents may misapply or misuse content. Validation of tool output is your sole responsibility.

6. Availability and Modifications

We may update, restrict, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may suspend or revoke access in cases of abuse, misuse, or excessive automated access.

We reserve the right to determine pricing for any part of the Service. We may change the fees for any feature of the Service, including additional fees or charges, if we give you advance notice of changes before they apply through the Service interface, email, or through other reasonable means.

7. Privacy

We do not sell or share your personal data.

We collect and store only the minimal information needed to operate the Service, such as:

  • GitHub ID, username, and public profile
  • Basic analytics to monitor usage and system performance
  • Event tracking to support features and capacity planning

Authentication is secure via GitHub OAuth. We do not access your code or private repositories.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranties of any kind. We disclaim any implied warranties including:

  • Accuracy or completeness of data
  • Merchantability or fitness for a specific purpose
  • Availability or compatibility with any agent or tool

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Code Index MCP and its maintainers are not liable for:

  • Errors in code generated by agents using our data
  • Service disruptions or access issues
  • Loss of data, business, or functionality related to use of the Service

Use at your own risk.

10. Prohibited Use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer or clone the Service
  • Scrape or extract bulk data beyond intended use
  • Use the Service to build competing products
  • Circumvent authentication or rate limits
  • Misrepresent your identity or violate applicable laws

Violation may result in account termination.

11. Open Source CLI Use

The Code Index MCP CLI is available as open source for integration and experimentation.

You may:

  • Fork, modify, and self-host for personal/internal use
  • Use it with MCP-compatible editors and agents
  • Contribute under the open source license

You may not:

  • Repackage or commercialize the CLI as a competing service
  • Use it to replace Code Index MCP in a paid product
  • Monetize or sublicense the CLI without written permission

For commercial use or licensing, contact: hi@cidx.dev

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California without regard to conflict of law principles. You agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located within Santa Clara County, California.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after such notification constitutes your agreement to the updated Terms.
